US-led Coalition hails anti-ISIS campaign in Syria’s Hawl
QAMISHLI, Syrian (North Press) – On Saturday, the US-led Global Coalition said Operation Humanity and Security launched by the Internal Security Forces of North and East (Asayish) and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Hawl Camp, northeast Syria, shows their commitment to prevent Islamic State Organization (ISIS) resurgence in northeast Syria.
In a tweet released, the Combined Joint Task Forces – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTFOIR) said, “The Asayish-SDF security ops in al-Hol camp, w/ Coalition’s assistance, demonstrate their commitment to stopping ISIS from regenerating in NE Syria.”
It added that the operation aims at “securing & protecting IDPs living in the camp.”
It, also, stressed the coalition’s commitment to provide advice and assist and enabling the SDF in this field.
This comes in the framework of the second phase of the Operation “Humanity and Security” in Hawl Camp to pursue ISIS sleeper cells following a resurge in murders in the camp recently.
Today, SDF and Asayish removed 33 tents inside which sharia law courses were given an execution sentences were passed, according to a statement issued by the Asayish earlier.
A day earlier, 27 militants of the ISIS sleeper cells were arrested and trenches were discovered too.
The first phase started in 2021 in response to calls of community and tribal leaders in Hawl countryside to reduce crimes at the camp.
Hawl Camp, 45 km east of the city of Hasakah, is a house for 55.829 individuals, including 28.725 Iraqis, 18.850 Syrians and 8.254 of foreign nationalities, according to the latest statistics obtained by North Press.
The camp witnesses murders with different methods, most notably firearms. The management of the camp fears that the latest Turkish threats of invading areas in northern Syria would pave the way for ISIS to reorganize its ranks; North Press cited a statement by the management as saying.
