Iranian-backed militias target coalition base in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Iranian-backed militias targeted on Wednesday evening a base of the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS in al-Omar Oil Field, east of Deir ez-Zor, with several rockets, prompting the latter to respond by shelling the sites whence the rockets were launched.

Hours before, several rocket shells landed on the Coalition base at Conoco Gas Field, north of Deir ez-Zor, pushing their forces to respond by shelling the rocket launch sites.

An exclusive source told North Press that the Iranian rockets were “launched from the desert of the town al-Meri’iyeh, near the Deir ez-Zor military airport.”

He added, “The attacks come after the US airstrikes, last night, on positions belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Deir ez-Zor and its countryside.”

The source stated that the Coalition began “responding to the militias – who parked their cars near a school to endanger the residents – at the places from which the rockets were launched.”

The Coalition shelling resulted in “casualties among the militias that attacked the base,” according to the source.
