3 People killed in landmine blast south of Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Three people were killed on Wednesday in a mine explosion in farmlands in the Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib, northwest Syria.

“Three people, a father, his son and another person, were killed by a mine explosion near the town of San in the eastern part of the Zawiya Mountain,” a local source from the area told North Press.

The three people were killed while working in harvesting figs. Many residents tried to hospitalize them to a nearby medical center, but they passed away, the source added.

On August 16, two people were killed and others were injured as a result of a mine explosion near the town of Kansafra in the southern part of Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib.

Syria ranked first in the world in the number of mine victims between 2011 and 2021, with 2.773 dead as a result of landmine explosions, according to the 23rd annual Landmine Monitor report.
