Russian-Syrian agreement on rejecting Turkish operation in north Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press)On Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad expressed their rejection of any new Turkish military incursion in northern Syria.

Speaking in Moscow at a press conference alongside his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad, Lavrov said that any military escalation in northern Syria would be “unacceptable.”

Russia and the Syrian government are looking to negotiate with Turkey to “prevent any new military action,” according to Lavrov.

Mekdad said that the Turkey should withdraw its forces from the lands it occupied in northern Syria and stop its interference in Syria’s internal affairs and its support to the terrorist organizations, in reference to the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, also known as the Syrian National Army (SNA).

We call on Turkey to stop playing the role it has played during the past years in Syria, the Syrian minister added.
