Syria’s Manbij residents reject government entry

MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – Residents of the city of Manbij in northern Syria refused normalization with Syrian government and the entry of its institutions into the city and areas of northeastern Syria.

Ayman Hammadi, a resident of Manbij, said that the statement of the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs “aims at normalization with the Syrian regime and eliminating what remains of the revolution.”

“The Turkish intentions were disclosed.”

Speaking to reporters on the final day of the 13th Ambassadors Conference in Ankara on August 11, Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu said that he had held a brief chat with his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Mekdad during the meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement meeting in the Serbian capital Belgrade, which took place on October 11, 2021.

Hammadi expressed his refusal to “the entry of the regime’s security institutions and others” into the areas of northeast Syria.

Khadija al-Ibrahim, a resident of Manbij, told North Press that Cavusoglu’s statement revealed Turkey’s intentions “to exploit the Syrian revolution for its interests, and turn the revolutionaries into mercenaries.”

She added that the people of Manbij support the demonstrations and stand by “the real demonstrators, not the mercenaries, until all demands are met.”

Hammadi al-Mar’i, a resident of Manbij, said that the Turkish move indicates that Turkey “does not care about the Syrian people or the Syrian issue.”

Al-Mar’i expressed the Manbij residents’ rejection of “the regime’s institutions entering their city and areas of northeast Syria after 11 years of war, destruction and great sacrifices.”
