Protest against Turkey in Aleppo northern countryside
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Residents of the city of Azaz, north of Aleppo Governorate, protested on Friday evening against Turkish endeavours to conclude reconciliation between Syrian government and Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA).
An exclusive source told North Press that the protests took place in the city’s neighborhoods and markets, where the protesters denounced Turkey’s new policy of dealing with the Syrian crisis.
The source added that the protesters denounced the silence of the Syrian Interim Government, the Syrian National Coalition (SNC) and the SNA.
The protesters called for a response to the shelling, which targeted the city of al-Bab, east of Aleppo, killing 14 people and wounding 33 others, according to the source.
On Friday, dozens of residents of the city of Afrin protested against Turkish statement, denouncing Turkey’s new approach to the Syrian crisis.
The city of Azaz has been under the control of Turkey and its affiliated Syrian opposition since July 2012.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu revealed on sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement meeting in Belgrade that he had held a short meeting with his Syrian counterpart Faisal al-Mekdad in Belgrade in October.
Cavusoglu called for reconciling between the Syrian government and the opposition to fulfill “permanent peace” as he claimed.
Following the Turkish calls for reconciliation, Syrian activists called for staging demonstrations against these statements.
