Turkish shelling wounds two government soldiers in Syria’s Hasakah

TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – Two soldiers of the Syrian government forces were wounded late on Thursday in fierce shelling by Turkish forces and their affiliated armed Syrian opposition factions  of north of Hasakah, northeast Syria.

A source of Tel Tamr Military Council, affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said that a Turkish drone targeted the village of Aboush north of the town of Tel Tamr at midnight.

No information about impacts was reported, according to the source.

This attack came few hours after another drone attack on a plant for producing foam on Tel Tamr-Hasakah route near the village of Shmoka.

Another military source told North Press that casualties were reported in the attack on the plant.

The foam plant, southwest of the western dam of Hasakah, is about 42 kilometers from Turkish border, as it is close to a base of the US-led Global Coalition.

The Turkish forces targeted on Thursday midnight the village of al-Dardara, which is close to a Russian base north of Tel Tamr, with dozens artillery shells.

As a result of the targeting, two soldiers of the government forces were wounded, and they were transferred to hospitals in the region, the Tel Tamr Military Council told North Press.

This is the second Turkish attack on the government forces’ posts in the countryside of Tel Tamr in a week.

On August 12, the Turkish artillery targeted a military post of the government forces in the village of Sheikh Ali north of Tel Tamr, wounding two soldiers including a lieutenant.

Lately, areas situated on border strip between Syria and Turkey and contact lines with the Turkish forces and their affiliated factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), in northeastern Syria have been witnessing significant military escalation in a blatant violation of ceasefires agreements of 2019.

Following the Turkish incursion in October 2019, Turkey signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US stipulating ceasing all hostilities and the withdrawal of the SDF 32 km away from the Turkish border.

The SDF did withdrew from the border areas according to the agreement, but Turkey continues targeting the area.
