Two individuals including ISIS affiliate killed in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, two individuals, one of whom is accused of belonging to the Islamic State Organization (ISIS), were killed in the western countryside of Daraa, a governorate south Syria.

Local sources told North Press that Muhammad Rabi’ Sayel Awdat known as “Hamoda Tasil” was killed after being arrested on August 8 at a checkpoint of the government forces between two towns of Dael and Tafas in the western countryside of Daraa.

The sources added that Awdat, who hails from the town of Tassil in western countryside of Daraa, was accused of belonging to ISIS.

In the summer of 2018, he left Yarmouk Basin area, the ISIS’s stronghold west of Daraa and settled in Tafas.

On June 22, he got wounded in a conflict with the government forces, which raided several homes in the town of al-Yadudah in the western countryside of Daraa, according to the same sources.

Two video footage went viral on social media in which Awdat is shown admitting his affiliation with ISIS, and that the organization is responsible for the killing of a number of members of the Central Committee and former leaders of the Syrian opposition.

Activists in Daraa questioned the validity of the confessions of Awdat, and they suggested that he released them under torture, as he was shot by the government forces during the raid.

Residents of Tel Shihab, a town in the western countryside of Daraa, found late on Wednesday a young man’s body at the town’s roundabout.

A local source told North Press that the body belongs to the young man Maher Muhammad Ruwaisi, who comes from the village of Jabila in the western countryside of Daraa.

Ruwaisi is accused of working with the Syrian government forces, according to residents.

The source added that the residents found a paper on the body with the word “Agent” on it that indicates his affiliation with the government forces.

In 2021, Daraa Governorate went through an 80-day-seige. After that, a number of Daraa’s notables and government forces, with mediation of Russian officers, reached a ceasefire agreement on September 5, 2021, including handing over weapons and deploying governmental security posts in the towns of the governorate
