Rockets hit US military base eastern Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – TheCombined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTFOIR) said on Tuesday that rounds of rockets were fired towards the Green Village in the east of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, referring to the al-Omar oil field in northeast Syria.

The CJTFOIR said in a statement that the rockets were fired shortly after 9 pm on August 15, noting “it did endanger the local civil population and infrastructure.”

CJTFOIR is the US military’s operational name for the international military coalition’s intervention against ISIS in Iraq and Syria, which started in August 2016.

“Several rockets failed to launch and were recovered by Coalition Forces and their Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) partners before they could pose an additional threat to the local population,” the statement read.

Major General, John Brenna, the CJTFOIR commander, stressed that this “cowardly and unsuccessful attack would not distract the Coalition or its partners from their mission.”

“The Coalition is proud to be a reliable partner in the efforts to maintain the lasting defeat of ISIS, and our commitment is unwavering despite these reckless actions by those responsible,” Brennan said.

On January 5, 2022, the Green Village was subjected to a round of eight rockets fired by Iranian-backed militias causing material damages to the base and to a mosque nearby, according to a statement.
