Turkey’s SNA arrests 6 civilians east of Aleppo charged with offending flag

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Turkish-backed Military Police arrested on Monday six people in the city of Jarablus, northeast of Aleppo Governorate in northern Syria, charged with “offending Turkish flag.”

An exclusive source told North Press that the Military Police, an armed faction affiliated with the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA), kept six people in custody in the faction’s headquarters in the city to be later delivered to Turkish intelligence.

The people were arrested on charges of “offending the Turkish flag” during demonstrations launched on August 12 refusing calls for reconciliation with the Syrian Government.

On August 12, a number of demonstrations took place in opposition-held areas in the countryside of Aleppo, condemning the statements made by Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, in which he called for reconciliation between the Syrian government and opposition.

On August 13, the Military Police arrested 10 people in Jarablus also charged with offending the Turkish flag during the protests, according to the source.

In response to the Turkish minister’s call, Jarablus city witnessed mass protests, denouncing any attempts to normalize relations with the government.

The city of Jarablus, east of Aleppo, has been under the control of the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions since 2016.
