Regional powers, government bear responsibility for prolonging Syrian crisis – SDC

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) –  Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) warned against increasing dangers of humanitarian disasters due to regional and local conflicts and its repercussions on the region in general and on Syria in particular amid ongoing Turkish threats to the region.

The Executive Board of SDC issued a statement following a two-day meeting on August 13 and 14 in the city of Raqqa, north Syria, to discuss the recent developments.

“Policies of regional and global powers as well as those of the regime that are far away from the political solution and the democratic change” prolong the crisis as no solutions seem to loom on the horizon, according to the SDC statement.

The SDC is the political wing of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). It was founded in 2015 and includes all the communities of north and east Syria.

The SDC condemned the recent Turkish attacks and targeting of civilians in northeast Syria and the violation of Syrian airspace and sovereignty.

The SDC also warned of imminent consequences of Turkish officials’ statements on supporting the Syrian government, saying, “They circumvent demands of the Syrian people in attaining the political transition to achieve a radical democratic change.”

The Syrian people needs a “sustainable political solution not submission that leads to reproducing a central tyrannical regime,” the statement added.

The statement revealed SDC’s endeavours to have balanced relations with Arab countries and to develop relations with Russia and countries of the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat the Islamic State Organization (ISIS).

The statement stressed that dialogue is the best way to bring together views and create hopeful agreements with all divisions of the Syrian opposition.
