Asayish arrests ISIS militant in Syria’s Hasakah

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) arrested on Saturday a militant of the Islamic State (ISIS) in the city of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.

In a statement published on its official website, the Asayish announced arresting an ISIS militant at dawn on Friday.

The statement added that the detainee participated in the infamous al-Sinaa Prison attack in Hasakah last January.

A machine gun, forged papers and a cellphone were seized with the militant, according to the Asayish statement.

On January 20, hundreds of ISIS sleeper cells launched a fierce attack on al-Sinaa Prison to free their fellow militants. The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Asayish and the US-led Global Coalition managed to take back control of the prison after a bloody 10-day-battle, in which 121 SDF fighters were killed and 374 of the terrorist organization.
