Armenian Council slams global silence towards Turkish attacks in NE Syria
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Armenian Social Council of Northeastern Syria condemned on Saturday the international silence towards “aggressive” Turkish attacks against civilians in areas of north and east Syria.
The Armenian Social Council said, in a statement, “The presence of Armenians on this piece of land is a clear evidence of the Ottomans’ attempt to exterminate them, and of the demographic change carried out by the Ottomans in western Armenia in 1915.”
The Armenian Social Council was established in the city of Hasakah, a governorate northeast Syria, on April 24, 2020 to introduce the Armenian language, culture and history to others.
It is a local council concerned about Armenians’ affairs.
The council also denounced the Turkish escalation on areas in north and east Syria.
“Erdogan is the first leader of terrorist organizations, and accordingly international community must hold him accountable,” the statement read.
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has recently announced plans to carry out another major military cross-border incursion into northern Syria. Erdogan specified his targets in the two northern Syrian cities of Manbij and Tel Rifaat.
On July 1, Erdogan said that Ankara’s new military operation in northern Syria could begin at any moment.
“The time has come to clear these lands from the terrorist organizations,” Erdogan threatened during Tehran summit.
Tehran Summit, on July 19, brought together presidents of each of Iran, Russia and Turkey with the Syrian issue and Turkish threats on the top of its agenda.
On May 30, The Armenian Social Council condemned the Turkish ongoing attacks on northeast Syria, calling on active countries to intervene and stop these attacks.
