DARAA, Syria (North Press) – A girl died while two others were seriously injured on Thursday in a landmine blast in the northern countryside of Daraa.
Daraa governorate is full of landmines, most of them planted during the sporadic clashes between the Syrian government and opposition.
A local source told North Press that a 14-year-old girl lost her life before arriving at the Daraa National Hospital, due to a landmine explosion located near the town of Barqa in the northern countryside of Daraa.
The other two girls arrived at the hospital in critical condition, and are still being monitored, he added.
According to the source, the three children worked in harvesting fruit crops with their families. “Their families hail from Deir ez-Zor Governorate, but have lived in Daraa governorate for years.”
The explosive remnants of war have killed dozens of civilians, most of them children, as no party takes upon itself removing them to protect the people.
