Russian forces patrol in Syria’s Hasakah

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, Russian forces conducted a military patrol in the countryside of Qamishli and Hasakah in northeastern Syria.

The patrol started from the town of Amuda, west of Qamishli to Abu Rasin (Zirgan) in the north of Hasakah.

The patrol, which was consisted of four military armored vehicles and three helicopters flying at low altitudes, took off from the Russian base in Amuda at 10:30, according to an eyewitness.

He pointed out that the patrol went towards villages on the border strip.

This came after two Russian drones took off, at 8:30, from Amuda at a low altitude and headed towards the contact lines between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), and came back after half an hour, according to an eyewitness.

Three days ago, two Russian helicopters flew at a low altitude over Derbasiyah and its village’s northern Hasakah governorate, based on the Turkish escalation against those areas.

Late in July, the Russian forces conducted a patrol in the towns and villages located on the contact lines in the northern countryside of Hasakah. This was the first time that Russia patrolled with Turkey since 2019.

In October 2019, following a Turkish military operation in areas of northeast Syria which resulted in the occupation of Tel Abyad, north of Raqqa, and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) north of Hasakah, the Turkish president signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US.

The ceasefire agreements stipulating halt of all hostilities there and the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) 30 kilometers in depth away from the Turkish border in addition to conducting joint patrols with Russia in order to monitor the implementation of the agreements.
