Iraqi official warns loss of control of Syria’s Hawl Camp
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Qassim al-Araji, Iraq National Security Advisor warned on Wednesday of the loss of control of Hawl camp in northeastern Syria which is home for thousands of Iraqi families.
Al-Araji made remarks in a meeting with Ville Varjola, Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to the Republic of Iraq, according to a statement made by the media office.
The two parties discussed recent political and security issues in Iraq and the region, laying stress on the ways of cooperation between Iraq and the international community.
The Iraqi official noted to the continuation of combating the Islamic State (ISIS) irrespective of the political developments shaping the country.
He warned of the potential dangers posed to Iraq and the world in case of losing control of Hawl camp in northeastern Syria.
Hawl Camp, 45 km east of the city of Hasakah, is a house for 55.829 individuals, including 28.725 Iraqis, 18.850 Syrians and 8.254 of foreign nationalities, according to the latest statistics obtained by North Press.
The camp is dubbed as one of the most dangerous camps worldwide for housing thousands of families of the ISIS fighters.
Al-Araji noted to his country’s interest to protect its citizens all around the world and to render help to those willing to return home voluntarily.
Ville Varjola, EU ambassador to Iraq, commended Iraq’s efforts to repatriate Iraqis present at the Hawl camp.
