Toll of Turkish attacks against areas of northern Syria in August
AIN ISSA, Syria (North Press) – Tel Abyad Military Council, affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), revealed on Tuesday the toll of the Turkish attacks that targeted – during August – the villages of Tel Abyad and Ain Issa, towns in northern Syria.
During the past month, the areas located on the contact lines separating the Tel Abyad Military Council and the Turkish-backed opposition factions, known as Syrian National Army (SNA), witnessed a significant escalation.
In October 2019, Turkish forces and their affiliated SNA factions launched Operation “Peace Spring” against Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad under the pretext of pushing the fighters of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) away from the Turkish border with Syria.
Following the Turkey’s occupation of the two cities, Turkey signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US, stipulating ceasing all hostilities and the withdrawal of the SDF 32 km away from the Turkish border.
Wissam al-Omar, the spokesman for the Tal Abyad Military Council, told local media that Turkey is disregarding all ceasefire agreements pertaining to north and northeast Syria.
He said that the Turkish forces continue to shell populated villages along the contact lines in the western countryside of Tel Abyad and the outskirts of Ain Issa, north of Raqqa Governorate.
During the past 10 days, the Turkish forces and affiliated SNA factions launched 30 attacks on the villages of Kor Hassan, al-Fatsa, al-Ahmadiya and others, according to al-Omar.
The attacks killed five people, one civilian and four fighters of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish), in addition to injuring two others.
For the third day in a row, all areas adjacent to the Syrian-Turkish border in north and northeast Syria, have been witnessing an unprecedented military escalation by Turkey and its affiliated SNA factions.
