Turkish shelling of northeast Syria claims lives of civilians

TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – A civilian lost his life on Tuesday dawn due to Turkish and Turkish shelling of the town of Tel Tamr, north of Hasakah Governorate in northeastern Syria.

Tel Tamr Military Council, a military formation affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), told North Press that the Turkish forces shelled the villages of al-Gozaliya, Tel al-Laban and Salamsa, north of the town, causing the civilians Ibrahim Muhammad Hashi to lose his life. 

Tel Tamr, which has a population of about 25.000 and is 30km away from the Syrian-Turkish border, is of strategic importance as it is a junction on the M4 Highway linking the Jazira region in northeast Syria to Aleppo governorate in northwest.

Two aircrafts flew at low altitude at 7:45 am over Derbasiyah town towards the front line between Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Turkish army, according to an eyewitness.

Al-Gozaliya, Tel al-Laban, al-Qarajnah and Tawila villages in Tel-Tamr countryside witnessed on Monday intense Turkish shelling four times. 

This coincided with Turkish escalation that affected multiple different villages northeast Syria.

Earlier, another Turkish shelling on northern Hasakah wounded more than 13 civilians and killed a civilian and a solider of the Syrian government forces. 

The town of Tel Tamr north of Hasakah has been under constant attack by Turkish forces and the SNA, for more than two years.

Tel Tamr, which has a population of about 25.000 and is 30km away from the Syrian-Turkish border, is of strategic importance as it is a junction on the M4 Highway linking the Jazira region in northeast Syria to Aleppo governorate in northwest.

Parts of the northern and western countryside of the town and the entire southern countryside are protected by the Syriac Military Council and the Assyrian Khabour Guards Forces, while the Turkish-backed SNA control the northern countryside up to the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) on the northern border of Syria.
