ISIS claims attack on SDF vehicle east of Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed on Wednesday an assault on a military vehicle of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

The assault took place in the town of Abraha, about 30 km east of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

ISIS-run Amaq News Agency, published a statement saying, “The organization’s militants targeted, with machine guns, a military vehicle of the SDF, resulting in killing and injuring of all its occupants.”

Ali al-Ahmad, a local activist in the town of Abraha, told North Press, “Unidentified gunmen opened fire on an SDF military vehicle on the main road [in the town] on Wednesday morning, which led to two [SDF] fighters losing their lives.”

The countryside of Deir ez-Zor has recently been witnessing a spike in assassinations, targeting SDF fighters, employees of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), tribal leaders and civilians, despite the intensive security campaigns launched by the SDF.

On July 30, ISIS took responsibility for targeting an SDF vehicle in the town of al-Hussan west of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, resulting in the death of two SDF fighters.
