Turkish forces shell village in Syria’s Hasakah
TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces and their affiliated opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), shelled a village in the countryside of Tel Tamr, a town north of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.
A source of Tel Tamr Military Council, affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), told North Press that “Turkish forces, using a barrage of artillery shells, hit the village of al-Gozaliya, west of Tel Tamr.”
No information have been provided regarding the impacts of the shelling.
A sporadic shelling is still taking place in the area.
On Monday’s morning, the Turkish forces shelled the village of al-Boubi in the countryside of Zirgan (Abu Rasin), north of Hasakah, resulting in material damage.
The areas near the contact lines – separating the Turkish forces and affiliated SNA factions from the SDF in north of Hasakah – have witnessed for two weeks a significant Turkish escalation, which resulted in civilian and military casualties, in addition to huge material damage to properties.
On July 30, the Turkish forces shelled several villages in Tel Tamr countryside, resulting in the injury of nine civilians, including children, according to what medical and military sources told North Press. Out of those nine, three were hospitalized to the People’s Hospital in Hasakah, and one of them was critically injured.
Tel Tamr, which has a population of about 25.000 and is 30 km away from the Syrian-Turkish border, is of strategic importance as it is a junction on the M4 Highway linking the Jazira region in northeast Syria to Aleppo Governorate in northwest.
