SDF fighters killed, wounded in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A fighter of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) lost his life and two others were wounded on Sunday in an armed clash with smugglers in the town of Abu Hamam, 90 km east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

The 26-year-old Ahmad al-Talal, an SDF fighter, lost his life, and two others were wounded in a clash with a group of smugglers at one of the smuggling crossings in al-Mouh neighborhood in the town of Abu Hamam, a military source of the SDF in the town told North Press.

The smugglers were trying to smuggle large quantities of fuel to Syrian government held areas west of the Euphrates River, the source said.

The smugglers fled towards government-held areas west of the Euphrates, while the injured were transferred to al-Omar Military Hospital, according to a doctor in the hospital.

The SDF has recently intensified its raids on the river crossings that link its areas with those of the government forces following a campaign to confront smuggling and ensure economic stability in the region.
