Unknown attacks against SDF reiterate in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, three fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) got wounded in two different attacks by unknown attackers in Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
A military source from the town of al- Busayrah, 35 kilometers east of Deir ez-Zor, said that unknown attackers, who were riding a motorbike, fired at 28-year-old Elias al-Hamoud, an SDF fighter in front of his house.
Al-Hamoud, who was on a leave, was hit in the head, according to the source.
The SDF fighter was transferred to Military Hospital in al-Omar oil well, his health condition is very critical; the source cited a doctor in the hospital as saying.
Following the incident, the attackers flew.
The Islamic State Organization (ISIS) often claims responsibility for attacks via unidentified individuals in Deir ez-Zor against SDF fighters, tribal leaders, civilians and employees of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
The attack coincided with an assault with machineguns against a military checkpoint of the SDF in the town of Suwar, 50 km north of Deir ez-Zor.
A military source from the village of al-Wahid, affiliated to Suwar, said that clashes erupted between unidentified attackers and SDF fighters on a checkpoint in the vicinity of the village.
The source went further saying that the clashes caused the wounding of two SDF fighters and the attackers managed to flee and hid in neighborhoods of the town.
As a result, the SDF brought in reinforcements to pursue the attackers within the town, according to the same source.
The wounded were transferred to a field hospital in Suwar, and they were in good health.
On Friday, the ISIS, through affiliated outlets, claimed responsibility for 28 operations it launched throughout Syria with most of them carried out in Syria’s northeast.
Although the SDF launches intensive security operations, the countryside of Deir ez-Zor has recently witnessed an increase in killing incidents carried out against SDF members, employees of the Autonomous Administration, tribal figures and civil residents.
The SDF keeps pursuing ISIS sleeper cells in Deir ez-Zor eastern countryside with the aim to maintain security and stability of the region.
