NE Syria facing increasing coronavirus infections

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Areas in northeast Syria are facing an increasing number of coronavirus infections, an official in Health Board of Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said, on Thursday, rolling out any new wave.

Co-chair of the AANES Health Board, Jiwan Mustafa, said that the increasing infections have not reached to a level where it can be considered a new wave.

After the coronavirus outbreak in the region, certain periods of the year, like the current period, witnessed a hike in infections, according to Mustafa.

He told North Press that the possibility of witnessing a new wave in the area is weak due to a number of reasons including, “the virus has weakened, and many elderly people and patients with chronic diseases were vaccinated against coronavirus.”
He stressed the need “for elderly people and patients with chronic diseases to take the necessary health precautions and serious preventative procedures.”

On Tuesday, the Health Board of the AANES recorded 39 new coronavirus infections in Jazira region.

The recorded infections were 33 men and six women.

The total toll of infections in northeast Syria has come up to 38.642, including 1.578 deaths and 2.565 recoveries.
