ISIS claims responsibility for attacking Asayish in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed on Monday responsibility for an attack targeting a checkpoint of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
The ISIS militants attacked a checkpoint of the Asayish in the village of Sabha, 30 km east of Deir ez-Zor, with machine guns.
The ISIS-run Amaq news agency published a statement saying that the attack caused the injury of two Asayish members and material damage to the area targeted.
Following the incident, the attackers fled the area.
A military source of the Asayish told North Press that unidentified gunmen attacked the checkpoint of Sabha village with machine guns causing the injury of two members who were hospitalized to al-Omar Hospital.
“The wounded are in good condition,” the source added.
The countryside of Deir ez-Zor witnesses an increase in cases of assassination, targeting SDF fighters, employees of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), tribal leaders and civilians, despite the intensive security operations launched by the SDF.
The AANES was first formed in 2014 in the Kurdish-majority regions of Afrin, Kobani and Jazira in northern Syria following the withdrawal of the government forces. Later, it was expanded to Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor after the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) defeated ISIS militarily.
Since the beginning of this month, ISIS claimed responsibility for nine attacks within the AANES-held areas.
