Turkey escalates shelling of Syria’s Hasakah for third day in row

TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces and Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), shelled on Monday villages in the countryside of the towns of Tel Tamr and Zirgan (Abu Rasin), north of Hasakah Governorate, northeast Syria, with artillery and mortar shells.

A source in Tel Tamr Military Council told North Press that the Turkish forces targeted Assyrian villages of Tel Tawil and Tel Juma’, in the northern and western countryside of Tel Tamr.

During the shelling, Turkish drones were hovering over contact lines, according to an informed source.

At the same time, the Turkish artillery targeted the villages of al-Asadiya, al-Khadrawi, Tel Hermel, Khirbet al-Sha’ir, and Tel al-Ward in Zirgan, according to an eyewitness.

Three days ago, Tel Tamr countryside witnessed a fierce Turkish military escalation.

In addition, the Turkish forces started on Sunday to shell Zirgan, where the Turkish shelling had stopped for about a month.

During Sunday, Turkey shelled Tel Tamr villages with 125 shells, killing a civilian and a Syrian government soldier and wounding 10 civilians, including women and children.

A day before, the Turkish shelling of the villages of Tel Tamr caused the wounding of three members of Assyrian Khabour Guards and caused material damage to residents’ possessions.

Additionally, the Turkish shelling of the village of Umm al-Keif west of Tel Tamr caused Tel Tamr power transformer station to be out of service.
