Senior Government Official threatens bombing Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – The head of the security committee of the Syrian government forces, Mufeed Hassan, threatened on Sunday to target a number of areas in Daraa Governorate using fighter jets and heavy artillery.
A local source told North Press, “The threats came during a meeting that took place in the governorate building in Daraa between the head of the Military Security Branch in Daraa, Brigadier Lou’i al-Ali, and representatives of Daraa city and the areas of Jassim, al-Yadudah and Tafas.”
The threats focused on using warplanes and heavy artillery in case of any delay in implementing the government force’ demands, the sources added.
The sources said, “The meeting was aimed at discussing several issues, but the most prominent of them was [demanding local dignitaries] to hand over the people – who do not want to engage in the settlement agreement – to the government so it can move them from Daraa Governorate to other regions.”
In 2021, Daraa Governorate went through an 80-day-seige. After that, a number of Daraa’s local dignitaries and government forces, in the presence of a number of Russian officers, reached a ceasefire agreement on September 5, 2021, including handing over weapons and deploying governmental security posts in the towns of the governorate.
The head of security committee considered those who did not engage in the agreement to be the ones behind the assassinations that target the government forces. The latest of these operations took place on Thursday when unknown gunmen killed two officers and injured two others in Garaz area east of Daraa.
Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of security chaos, as it witnesses almost daily operations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, not to mention the spread of thefts.
