Russian jets target posts of SNA in Syria’s Hasakah

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Russian warplanes bombed on Saturday several posts of Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), in the northern countryside of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.

A military source told North Press that the Russian warplanes targeted posts of the SNA in the villages of al-Mahmoudi, Tel Muhammad and Tel Alo, north of Tel Tamr town, which are the contact lines between the SNA factions and Syrian government forces.

There were no reports about the damage caused by the bombardment.

Local media pointed out that the Russian bombing came in response to a targeting by SNA factions of a post of the Syrian government forces on M4 Highway earlier on Saturday.

The bombing came in conjunction with another Turkish military escalation, the latest of which was on Friday, as three fighters of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were targeted in the city of Qamishli in northeast Syria.

Following Tehran’s summit on July 19, Turkey has been using drones extensively in north and east Syria, targeting civilians and military vehicles, and sometimes vital facilities and empty farmlands.

The attacks come in tandem with repeated threats by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to launch a military operation in northern Syria against the cities of Manbij and Tel Rifaat.
