Turkish escalation on northern Syria leads to casualties, displacement
TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, one of the residents of the countryside of Tel Tamr town, north of Hasakah Governorate in northeastern Syria, and a soldier of Syrian government forces lost their lives and others were wounded in a Turkish shelling of the area.
The Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), have shelled the northern countryside of Hasakah since Saturday.
The shelling has affected several villages for more than once in the last 24 hours, which left the Tel Tamr power transformer station out of service for the 27th time since the beginning of 2022.
A medical source, who preferred not to be named, said that the man who lost his life is Hassan Ibrahim, from Mjebrah in addition to wounded people from other Tel Tamr villages including Farhan Ali, 50, Wadha Omar, 70, who are from Mjebrah, Fayez Mahmoud, 19, from Khashmah, and Rajiha Yassen, 65, from Bab al-kheir.
A source in the Tel Tamr Military Council, a military formation affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), told North Press that the Turkish artillery has been targeting villages of Tel Tamr and Abu Rasin with dozens of shells which led to a massive displacement.
The targeted villages are Tawila, Tel Shanan, Umm al-Keif, the vicinity of the Russian Military Base, Tel Juma’, Ghaybish, al-Mujibera, Bab al-Kheir, and al-Khashma” in northern and western countryside of Tel Tamr. One of Tawila’s residents got wounded due to the shelling, according to the same source.
The Turkish artillery shelled Qabr al-Khedrawi, Tel Hermel, al-Asadiya, Mushairfa Zarkan, Tel al-Amir, Bsais and Harmallah, the source noted.
A military source told North Press that one of Syrian army soldiers lost his life due to the Turkish shelling on al-Asadiya of Zirgan (Abu Rasin) town.
A medical source in Martyr Khabat Hospital in Derbasiyah told North Press that four wounded people including two children reached the hospital due to the Turkish shelling.
