Turkish factions arrest 51 residents of Syria’s Afrin in month
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – The Violations Documentation Center in Northern Syria (VDC-NSY) reported on Friday that since the beginning of July, Turkish-backed armed opposition factions have arrested 51 people in Afrin region, north of Aleppo Governorate.
The VDC-NSY said, in a statement, “Turkish-backed Military Police faction had arrested 51 residents from Afrin districts since the beginning of July.”
The city of Afrin and its countryside was occupied by Turkey in 2018 following a military operation named “Olive Branch” by Turkish forces and their affiliated SNA factions under the pretext of maintaining Turkey’s “national security.”
The “Olive Branch” operation led to the displacement of more than 300.000 people of the original inhabitants of Afrin.
The last arrest case was carried out by al-Hamzat Division in the village of Dargireh of Mobata/ Maabatli district, two days ago, according to the statement.
The Division arrested six individuals who are, Adel Bayram, 53, Ahmad Bayram, 55, Ahmad Brimko, 60, Jamil Muhammad, 55, Mustafa Jamal bin Farid, 20, and Medhat Muhammad bin Murad, 63, the statement added.
Afrin continues to witness a state of insecurity accompanied by explosions and infighting between the SNA factions over property of the indigenous people, amid the factions’ inability to maintain the security.
In an annual report for the past year, the VDC-NSY recorded 8.179 arrests since the beginning of the Turkish incursion into northern Syria, where about 5.430 of them were released, while the fate of the others is still unknown.
