Russia opposes any Turkish action against Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Assistant to the Russian President Yury Ushakov reiterated his country’s opposition to any Turkish actions that violate the basic principles of a political settlement in Syria.

Moscow opposes any actions that would violate the basic principle of settlement in Syria stipulated in the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the outputs of the Astana track, which stipulates respect for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria, Ushakov told RIA Novosti.

Ushakov statement came in tandem with Tehran summit that brings together the presidents of Russia, Iran and Turkey where Syrian issue is a priority.

Regarding the aid mechanism, he stressed that the cross-border aid mechanism constitutes a temporary measure that must be ended because it violates the sovereignty of the Syrian state.

On July 9, the UN Security Council issued a decision to extend the mechanism of the entry of humanitarian aid through the Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey into northwest Syria, in two stages, each lasting for six months, without adding any other crossings.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Russian presidential spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Tehran will focus on the issue of a political settlement in Syria.
