SDF thwarts terrorist operation in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Democratic forces (SDF) announced on Monday thwarting terrorist operations that were planned to target military forces and employees working for the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
The SDF said on its official website that counter-terrorism unites monitored the movements and contacts of a militant of Islamic State Organization (ISIS) north of Deir ez-Zor, who was planning to target SDF fighters and AANES employees.
The AANES was first formed in 2014 in the Kurdish-majority regions of Afrin, Kobani and Jazira in northern Syria following the withdrawal of the government forces. Later, it was expanded to Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor after the SDF defeated ISIS militarily.
The operation followed surveillance processes, as the SDF fighters raided the terrorist’s house, arrested him and confiscated his possessions including weapons and communication equipment, according to the SDF website.
The SDF counter-terrorism unites transmitted the ISIS agent to investigation based on video and audio evidences, to be fairly punished.
Recently, the countryside of Deir ez-Zor has witnessed an increase in cases of assassination, targeting members of the SDF, employees of the AANES, tribal leaders and civilians, despite the intensive security operations launched by the SDF.
On July 14, the SDF announced the arrest of an ISIS militant and the killing of another during a security operation with the support of the US-led Global Coalition east of Deir ez-Zor.
