Turkey uses false pretenses to invade Syria – Manbij Military Council

MANBIJ, Syria (North Press)Turkey is making many false, flimsy, and unjustified pretenses to penetrate more Syrian territories, which has always been rejected by the international community, said Shervan Darwish, the military spokesperson for Manbij Military Council (MMC), affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), on Sunday.

Darwish told North Press that “The MMC or the SDF, do not pose any threat to Turkish national security, but Ankara is looking for justifications to support its cause under the pretext of threatening its national security to occupy more and more Syrian lands.”

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has recently announced plans to carry out another major military cross-border incursion into northern Syria. Erdogan specified his targets in the two northern Syrian cities of Manbij and Tel Rifaat.

On July 1, Erdogan said that Ankara’s new military operation in northern Syria could begin at any moment.

“The Islamic State Organization (ISIS) will be the first beneficiary of the recent threats to the region, and thus it will be able to reactivate its sleeper cells and regroup its ranks to strike the security and stability of the region,” Darwish added.

He also pointed out that the areas taken over by Turkey have become a safe haven for a huge number of ISIS members and leaders whom are being covered by the Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition factions.

The military spokesperson considered that the active military forces in the area have gained experience to face any Turkish military operation, and have reached high levels of organization and armament with a public support from the people and tribes there in the areas.

“There is coordination between the Russians and the military forces to repel any attack on the city, in addition to opening the way for the government forces to strengthen their presence on the front lines with Turkey and its affiliated armed opposition factions.”

The MMC spokesperson Shervan Darwish stated that the military forces and all parties in the region “will spare no effort to reach a political solution that will avoid the region more wars and destruction. But if Turkey launches a military operation, the forces will not hesitate to repel any attack on the region.”

On Saturday, the MMC released a statement in which it condemned the Turkish threats against northern Syria and the military escalation against the countryside of Manbij and other areas in Syria’s north.
