Al-Assad’s first visit to Aleppo follows Turkish threats

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad visited Aleppo Governorate in a first announced visit since the eruption of the Syrian war in 2011.

The visit came in light of successive Turkish threats to invade the cities of Manbij and Tel Rifaat in Aleppo countryside.

The Syrian Presidency on its official websites and on social media said that al-Assad visited Aleppo Thermal Power Plant in the eastern countryside of Aleppo to witness launching the work of the fifth group of the station after its rehabilitation.

Recently, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has successively threatened to launch a new military operation in Manbij and Tel Rifaat in the northern and northeastern countryside of Aleppo.

Al-Assad’s visit to Aleppo is the first since 2011.

The presidency’s account added that operating the fifth group of the station wil supply the governorate with 200 kilowat of electricity.

In February 2021, General Electric Company in Aleppo announced that rehabilitation works began in the station with Iranian support.
