Opposition to launch operation against government in Syria’s northwest

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) –  On Tuesday, a military source of Syrian opposition revealed about preparations by the opposition factions in northwestern Syria to launch a military operation against Syrian government forces in both countryside of Idlib and Aleppo in tandem with a potential Turkish operation in Syria’s north.

Since early this week, areas east of Idlib and west of Aleppo have been witnessing military escalation between the government forces and the opposition in different areas.

The military leader told North Press that al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations’ Room, which includes many military factions of the opposition such as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) and Army of Glory and the National Front for Liberation, is equipping its forces ready to launch a new military operation against the government.

He added that it is expected that the battle will begin from the western countryside of Aleppo in the town of Mizanaz in the south reaching to Jabal Sheikh Aqil in the north, where the government forces and Iranian-backed militias deploy, and in limited areas in south and east of Idlib.

He noted that the aforementioned military operation will be launched in tandem with the Turkish military operation to be launched against north and east of Aleppo.

These movements come following several statements by Turkish prominent officials on launching military operation against areas in northern Syria

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has recently announced plans to carry out another major military cross-border incursion into northern Syria. Erdogan specified his targets in the two northern Syrian cities of Manbij and Tel Rifaat.

Areas in the western countryside of Aleppo, which have been witnessing military movements by parties to the conflict over days, are subjected to intensive shelling by the government forces on a daily basis, according to the source.

The opposition factions target all movements by the government forces west of Aleppo.

On Monday, the opposition factions targeted a military vehicle of the government forces near Anjara, west of Aleppo, with a guided missile, killing seven government soldiers.
