Iranian top diplomat visits Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian is visiting Syria on Saturday to discuss issues of mutual interest, Iranian news agency MEHR said.

This is the second visit of Amir-Abdollahian to Damascus during three months.

Amir-Abdollahian will meet high-ranking Syrian officials; the top of them is the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Faisal Mekdad.

Reviewing bilateral ties between Iran and Syria and exchanging views on the regional and international issues have been cited as the main aim behind the visit of Amir-Abdollahian to Damascus, said Nasser Kanaani, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman.

On March 23, the Iranian top diplomat visited Syria, where he met with the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad.

The pro-government al-Watan newspaper reported that the visit comes within the framework of the recent developments globally, the resumption of the Iranian nuclear talks, and the Turkish threats of launching new offensive on northern Syria.
