DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Late on Wednesday, four individuals including a non-commissioned officer of the Syrian government forces were wounded in an IED explosion in the southern Syrian governorate of Daraa.
The IED exploded in the car of the non-commissioned officer Muhammad Helwa so-called Abu Wael al-Jawwiya, affiliated with Air Force Intelligence of the government forces, near the national museum in al-Kashshaf neighborhood in Daraa, sources in the region told North Press.
As a result, Helwa was critically wounded, and three civilians, who were near the explosion site, were wounded too, according to the sources.
The sources added that Helwa was transferred to Rahma Hospital in the city before being referred to a hospital in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
The three wounded civilians were hospitalized at the National Hospital in Daraa, and they maintain stable medical condition.
Helwa, who is a prominent soldier of the government forces, recruits individuals in groups responsible for assassinations in the governorate, according to activists.
In September 2021, dignitaries of Daraa governorate and Syrian government reached a ceasefire agreement under Russia’s mediation which included handing over weapons of the local factions, and deploying government’s security posts in the towns of the governorate.
Daraa governorate continues to witness ongoing killing operations without knowing the party behind them, as no party has claimed responsibility for these attacks.
On Tuesday, a lieutenant colonel of the Syrian Army was killed and a soldier of government forces was injured after they were targeted with an IED in the western countryside of Daraa.
