Unknown individuals target lieutenant colonel in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press)– On Tuesday, a lieutenant colonel of the Syrian Army was killed and a soldier of government forces was injured after they were targeted with an IED in the western countryside of Daraa.
A source in the area told North Press that unknown people planted an IED on a route linking between the towns of Ain Thakar and Jamla, in the western countryside of Daraa.
The lieutenant colonel Shadi Siti, who is from al-Qardaha region north of Latakia, was responsible for several military checkpoints in Yarmouk Basin region in the western countryside of Daraa, including posts and companies on border with Jordan, according to the source.
In September 2021, dignitaries of Daraa governorate and Syrian government reached a ceasefire agreement under Russia’s mediation which included handing over weapons of the local factions, and deploying government’s security posts in the towns of the governorate.
Daraa governorate continues to witness ongoing killing operations without knowing the party behind them, as no party has claimed responsibility for these attacks.
