Turkey seeks to launch limited operation in northern Syria- SDC president

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The president of the Executive Committee of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), Ilham Ahmed, said on Monday that Turkey is trying to persuade the international community to allow it to carry out a limited military operation in northern Syria.

”Despite the public opinion’s rejection of this operation, we seriously take the Turkish threats,” Ahmed added, in a television interview with Russia RT channel.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said earlier this month that Ankara would complete the 30-kilometre-deep security belt along the country’s border with Syria, as soon as possible.

Ahmed said they are, in the Autonomous Administration of North  and East of Syria (AANES), opened to the  dialogue and the peaceful solution to resolve all issues internally and with neighboring countries and any other parties. She also stressed their unwillingness to fight any wars.

Ahmad said if Turkey implements its threats, they do not depend on the help of any active forces inside Syrian territory.

“We depend on our own forces and preparations. We rely on our diplomatic capabilities and our international relations in order to reduce the escalation and prevent Turkey from carrying out this military operation,” Ahmad said.

The SDC official said that Turkey is trying to persuade the international community to launch a limited military operation in northern Syria, which is not it in the interests of Russia and Iran.

“The Turkish operation will lead to the  release of all ISIS detainees who are in these areas. This will turn the region into hotbeds of terrorism targeting Russian, Iranian, European and American security,” according to Ahmad.
