ISIS claims killing government forces’ members in Syria’s Raqqa

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – ISIS claimed on Sunday an attack on a civilian bus in the countryside of Raqqa, northern Syria, killing and wounding 15 people, most of whom were members of the Syrian government forces.

ISIS Amaq News Agency said that ISIS members ambushed a bus carrying members of the Syrian forces, on the road to the village of al-Zamla in the southern countryside of Raqqa.

An attack on a civilian bus in northern Syria on Monday killed 13 people, including 11 soldiers, and wounded three troops, Syrian state media SANA reported, quoting an unnamed military official.

ISIS members targeted the bus with heavy fire from medium and light machine guns, killing 13 members of the government forces, Amaq added.

Following the attack, ISIS members burned the bus, before leaving the area, according to Amaq.

Raqqa was occupied by Syrian opposition forces in 2013 and was embroiled in a destructive civil war before being seized by ISIS in January 2014, at which time the city was declared the capital of the terrorist group’s so-called “caliphate.”

On October 2017, The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that the city of Raqqa was liberated from ISIS.

The areas south of Raqqa, in addition to the Badia, which are under the control of the Syrian government, continue ton witness a remarkable activity of ISIS cells.
