Russia, Turkey conduct joint patrol east of Syria’s Kobani
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – Russian Military Police (MP) and Turkish forces conducted Monday a joint patrol in the eastern countryside of Kobani, a city in northern Syria.
This is the 103rd joint patrol between the two forces in the region since the signing of the Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement in 2019.
In October 2019, following its military operation “Peace Spring” in which it occupied the two cities of Tel Abyad in north of Raqqa and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in north of Hasakah, Turkey signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US.
The ceasefire agreements stipulate halting of all hostilities there and the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) 30 kilometers in depth away from the Turkish border in addition to conducting joint patrols with Russia in order to monitor the implementation of the agreements.
The patrol, which consisted of eight Russian and Turkish military vehicles accompanied by two Russian helicopters, set off from the village of Gharib, 15 kilometers east of Kobani.
The patrol passed by the villages of Karbanaf, Kosk, Alishar, Jom Ali, Kortek, Kobk, Satan, Tiri, Tel Hajib, Qabajeq Saghir, Telk, Boztepe, Qaramogh, Jishan , reaching the intersection that connects Kharabisan Foqani and Itoiran Tahtani.
The patrol returned to the set off point in the village of Gharib.
The Turkish military vehicles returned to Turkey through the gate near Gharib village, while the Russian military vehicles returned to their position near the town of Sirrin, south of Kobani.
On June 13, Russian and Turkish forces conducted the 102nd joint patrol in the western countryside of Kobani.
