ISIS members assassinate civilian in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, gunmen affiliated with the Islamic State organization (ISIS) targeted a civilian house in the town of al-Busayrah in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A relative of the targeted person said that unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle fired an RPG-7 shell, followed by machine gun fire at the house of Omar al-Iraqi, one of the contractors of oil wells in the town.

Al-Iraqi recived several messages via Whats App from ISIS members, threatening him and demanding him to pay zakat money as he works in oil undertakings, according to al-Iraqi’s relative.

He added that al-Iraqi refused to pay the requested amount after a continuous threat for more than two times, after which he received a message stating that the reason for targeting the house was “his failure to pay zakat.”

Most of the oil traders and workers in the oil undertakings pay large sums of money, under the pretext of zakat to ISIS after threatening them with payment or punishment, according to local contractors from the region.

On April 9, ISIS members set fire to an oil well in  Diban town, in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, after the investor refused to pay the  money of zakat to them.
