Armed attack claims lives of five Iranian-backed militants in east Syria

HOMS, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, five militants of Iranian-backed Liwa al-Quds were killed in an armed attack in the town of Sukhnah, east Syria.

With machineguns, armed attackers targeted a military car belonging to the Liwa al-Quds militants, who were reconnoitering the area between Sukhnah and the city of Palmyra, in central Syria, a military source of the Liwa al-Quds told North Press.

As a result, five militants, who were inside the car, were killed, the source added on condition of anonymity.

The source believes that the armed attackers are likely to belong to the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) because the ISIS flag was found placed on the targeted car following the incident.

The Iranian-backed militias along with the Syrian government forces maintain control over vast swathes in the Syrian Desert as well as the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, where fierce battles with the ISIS have recently erupted.
