Iranian-backed militants killed, wounded east of Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, one of Iranian-backed militants died and four others were wounded in an IED explosion east of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.

The IED, planted on a route leads to oil wells in the city of al-Quriyah, 50 kilometers east of Deir ez-Zor, exploded when a military car of the Iranian-backed al-Qaterji forces passed, a military source of the Syrian government forces in Deir ez-Zor said.

As a result, the militant died and four others, one of whom was Iraqi, were wounded, the source, who preferred to be unnamed for security reasons, added.

The Iranian-backed militias along with the government forces maintain control over vast swathes in the Syrian Desert as well as the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, where fierce battles with the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) have recently erupted.

On June 13, a government soldier was killed and three others were wounded in an armed attack against the government’s positions in the vicinity of al-Masrab desert west of Deir ez-Zor.
