Turkey targets northern Syria with 982 Shells in month – SDF

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) revealed the outcome of Turkish attacks on areas on lines of contact in northern Syria, noting that Turkey seeks to displace the residents of the area in order to complete its project of changing the demographics of the region.

The SDF Media Center stated that Turkey, through its violations and bombing of populated areas, aims at displacing the population, and continues to implement the policy of Turkification in the areas it controls.

It pointed out that all of the Turkish government’s practices are taking place amid suspicious silence of the active countries, human rights and humanitarian organizations and the United Nations.

The SDF counted 35 attacks by Turkish drones in the first half of June, causing material and human losses.

The statement also added that Turkey targets the region, using internationally prohibited cluster bombs.

982 different types of shells fell on inhabited areas, including the villages of Tel Tamr and Zarkan (Abu Rasin) in the northern countryside of Hasakah,  the countryside of Ain Issa town in the northern countryside of Raqqa, and the countryside of Manbij and the northern countryside of Aleppo, the statement read.

The Turkish shelling caused great material losses to civilian’s property, and burnt some agricultural crops, threatening food security in the region, as well as targeting infrastructure and places of worship, according to the statement.
