Syrian government group’s commander killed in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified gunmen shot dead on Wednesday the commander of a pro-government military group, east of Daraa, southern Syria.

“Ayman Rizq al-Zou’bi, known as Abu Jarrah, was killed by unknown gunmen in the town of Giza in the eastern countryside of Daraa,” local sources told North Press.

“Al-Zou’bi was previously a member of  the opposition, but he reconciled with the government forces after reigning Daraa governorate in 2018. After that he joined the Military Security Branch of the government forces and led a group,” the sources added.

Al-Zou’bi was in a sewing shop when he was targeted and of one of the shop’s workers was injured, according to the same sources.

On September 2021, dignitaries of Daraa governorate and Syrian government reached a ceasefire agreement under Russia’s mediation which included handing over weapons of the local factions, and deploying government’s security posts in the towns of the governorate.

Daraa governorate continues to witness ongoing killing operations without knowing the party behind them, as no party has claimed responsibility for these attacks.
