Tribal leaders of Syria’s Manbij demand international community, UN stop Turkish threats
MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – Tribal leaders of Manbij, north Syria, condemned on Sunday, in a statement to the public opinion, the Turkish threats to launch a new military operation within Syria on the pretext of protecting its national security and establishing a safe zone.
On May 23, Erdogan announced taking steps to complete the so-called remained portions of the safe zone plan along Turkey’s southern border saying, “We will soon take new steps regarding the incomplete portions of the project we started on the 30 km deep safe zone we established along our southern border.”
“Turkish forces and their affiliated opposition SNA factions continue to commit violations and bomb the city of Manbij and the areas near the contact lines amid the complete silence of the international community,” the statement said.
“The solution of the Syrian crisis is political not military. All Syrian communities should decide their fate through a peaceful solution, and not implementing foreign agendas of Turkey and the other regional countries,” it added.
“Turkey seeks to occupy more Syrian areas on the pretext of protecting its national security and establishing the safe zone. It seeks to persuade the international community of these false pretexts to achieve its interests through using the SNA that serves its policy and interests,” according to the statement.
The statement called on the international community and the UN to take a firm attitude towards the Turkish threats and its ongoing aggressions against the region and the populated villages in order to spread panic and push the residents to flee their areas.
