Any Turkish invasion would be met with popular resistance at first-Bashar al-Assad
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said on Thursday that the Syrian army is positioned in all regions of Syria. But it will do everything if military conditions allow for a direct confrontation with Turkey.
“If there is a Turkish invasion, there will be popular resistance in the first stage,” al-Assad said in an interview with RT TV.
On June 1 Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan renewed his threats to launch a military operation on the cities of Manbij and Tel Rifaat, which house displaced people from several Syrian regions.
Two years ago, the Syrian army was able to destroy some Turkish targets that entered Syrian territory, he said.
The confrontation will be the same according to what the military capabilities allow, he added.
As far Idlib, al-Assad said: “Like any occupied land, it is subject to Syrian military and political plans for liberation.”
“This issue is not is not negotiable. Any land occupied by either Turkey or the terrorists, it will be liberated with time,” al-Assad said.
