ISIS-left landmine amputates child’s arms in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A child lost his arms on Saturday in a town east of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria after he tried to play with a landmine of war remnants of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS).
Yazan al-Amer, a resident of al-Shaafah, a town located 115 km east of Deir ez-Zor, said that a landmine in the town exploded with the child Muhammad Hassan Ramadan when he was trying to play with it.
The child was transferred to al-Kaysoum Surgical Hospital in the town of Hajin, east of Deir ez-Zor. The child lost his arms and is in a critical condition, according to a doctor in the Hospital.
The Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) are widely spread in the areas of Deir ez-Zor eastern countryside, which was the last stronghold of ISIS and witnessed fierce battles between ISIS and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in 2019.
On Saturday, a landmine in al-Tabanni area in west of Deir ez-Zor exploded near a military vehicle belonging to the Syrian government forces, injuring three soldiers as a result.
