RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – A report by the Syrians for Truth and Justice Organization documented the execution of about seventy employees and guards by ISIS in its recent attack on al-Sinaa Prison in Hasakah, northeast Syria
The report relied on the testimonies of the victims’ families. It documented the discovery of military equipment and tools manufactured by ISIS members in primitive ways in the prison.
The report was also attached by pictures from various sources that illustrate the crimes committed by ISIS members.
“Ten out of about seventy employees of the Autonomous Administration of North and East of Syria (AANES) and SDF fighters, who were detained by ISIS in the prison, were beheaded and their bodies were burned,” it said.
The report quoted the testimonies of the families of some victims who identified the remains of their sons through marks on their bodies.
On Jan. 20, 2021, groups affiliated with ISIS attacked al-Sinaa Prison in the southern part of the city of Hasakah, northeast Syria.
The attack coincided with three explosions in an attempt to get ISIS prisoners out of the prison. Some of them could escape, while others hid in the neighborhoods surrounding the prison.
Al-Sinaa Prison houses about 3,500 ISIS detainees, alongside more than 700 minors — the so-called “Cubs of the Caliphate.” It is not the only prison holding ISIS detainees.
The prison events caused a mass exodus of residents of neighboring neighborhoods and the destruction of dozens of homes and shops. It also caused the destruction of service institutions, bakeries, grain silos, the Euphrates University and Ghweran Garage.
The report documented the escape of a number of ISIS members to the areas controlled by the Turkish forces in northeast Syria, especially the city of Sere Kaniye.
The attack, which lasted for ten days, ended with the killing of dozens of ISIS fighters and detainees inside the prison, in addition to approximately 122 members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and its prison guards.
