Syria’s population is nearly 23 million _ Central Bureau of Statistics

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) announced on Wednesday a new statistic of the Syrian population.

The Director of the Central Bureau of Statistics, Adnan Humaidan, told Sham FM, a local radio, “The number of Syria’s population, according to the latest statistic conducted in 2021, is 22.922.999, or nearly 23 million people.”

Humaidan mentioned that this statistic covers all the population in all the Syrian governorates that can be reached.

He denied rumors about the exaggerated numbers.

“The country’s population was nearly 22 million in 2019, while in 2020, a slight increase was recorded,” He added.

“The population is calculated according to the number of people present on Syrian territory at the moment of the census,” he noted.

“The CBS was supposed to conduct a census in 2014, but circumstances prevented that,” Humaidan said.

Syria is witnessing the largest displacement crisis in the world, with over 13 million of refugees and IDPs, according to UNHCR.
